Travel Quote of the Day

“Travel is glamorous only in retrospect.” – Paul Theroux

Isn’t that the truth. Traveling is an uphill battle of nothing going according to plan and always diverging from expectations. It must be like a Jackson Pollock painting; it’s not until we step back and examine all the broad strokes that we realize something amazing just happened.

Travel Quote of the Day

“I see my path, but I don’t know where it leads. Not knowing where I’m going is what inspires me to travel it.”

– Rosalia de Castro

I’m all about the first sentence. But maybe I just have control issues and wish I knew where the path was headed, but maybe half the fun is that I don’t. Maybe a little reckless abandon is good from time to time.

Travel Quote of the Day

“When you travel, remember that a foreign country is not designed to make you comfortable. It is designed to make its own people comfortable.” – Clifton Fadiman

I like to repeat this to myself when I get frustrated abroad. Granted, when the mind is screaming, ‘I am a guest and deserve to be treated with some courtesy, it’s easier to say this than to believe it.

And speaking of easier said than done, I have started this fitness boot camp today, this quote seems apropo.

I have to exercise in the morning before my brain figures out what I’m doing.

-Marsha Doble

Travel Quote of the Day

“Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life.”

– Jack Kerouac

Is this not the definitive quote of a traveler. What more can be said.

Travel Quote of the Day

“People travel to faraway places to watch, in fascination, the kind of people they ignore at home.”

– Dagobert D. Runes

Today, lets take this as an opportunity to stare at everyone in fascination, just not in a creepy way.

Travel Quote of the Day

“I travel the world, and I’m happy to say that America is still the great melting pot – maybe a chunky stew rather than a melting pot at this point, but you know what I mean.”

-Philip Glass
Happy Independence Day to that chunky stew I call home.

Travel Quote of the Day

“I have found out that there ain’t no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.” – Mark Twain.

Truth!! I’ve travelled with some people that have made me wish the trip would never end. And I’ve travelled with others who made me reassess our friendship. It’s a real challenge to be fake while traveling, it’s a round-the-clock commitment.

Travel Quote of the Day

Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail

Ralph Waldo Emerson

This a good quote, but I don’t love it. It is one of those things that’s obvious to say, yet on the road it’s harder to discern where the path hasn’t been trampled. Or even if that area is safe. Or if the path is untrodden because its just not worthy.

Travel Quote of the Day

Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.

Miriam Beard

I want more deep and permanent changes in my idea of living ASAP
