Travel Quote of the Day

“Travel becomes a strategy for accumulating photographs.”

Susan Sontag

I’m guilty of this. In fact when I came back from my month long vacation around Vietnam and Cambodia and my computer crashed taking with it my photos, I was heart broken. It kind of retroactively tainted my entire vacation.

Travel Quote of the Day

“Airplane travel is nature’s way of making you look like your passport photo.”

Al Gore

I certainly have only managed I get off a plane looking as fabulous as when I started once. I’m still trying to figure out how to make it a repeat performance.

Travel Quote of the Day

“The cool thing about being famous is traveling. I have always wanted to travel across seas, like to Canada and stuff.” – Britney Spears

Lets take a moment and remember it almost always helps to think before you speak.

Travel Quote of the Day: Family

“One doesn’t discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time.”

– Andre Gide

I love this quote mainly because when I left home to travel to Japan, I was so satisfied in knowing that it would be at least 2 years before I would even think about coming home. That plan was slightly derailed when I came home when my mother got sick. I came home for one week, and six months later I came home for good. With my mother now being recovered, I understand more than ever why I was okay to lose sight of home indefinitely and am now faced with another quote that I identify with quite fiercely.

“He who is overly attached to his family members experiences fear and sorrow, for the root of all grief is attachment. Thus one should discard attachment to be happy.”

Chanakya

I used to worry about how easy it was for me to squelch my sentimentality, I don’t anymore. I love my family more than anything, but that feeling of being free to go and not have anything pulling you back, that’s a very close second.

Travel Quote of the Day

“But that’s the glory of foreign travel, as far as I am concerned. I don’t want to know what people are talking about. I can’t think of anything that excites a greater sense of childlike wonder than to be in a country where you are ignorant of almost everything. Suddenly you are five years old again. You can’t read anything, you have only the most rudimentary sense of how things work, you can’t even reliably cross a street without endangering your life. Your whole existence becomes a series of interesting guesses.”

― Bill Bryson, Neither Here Nor There: Travels in Europe

I too love this about travel. From home the world looks big and scary, but once you’re out there, that childhood curiosity overtakes fear and I just want to do and learn everything.

Travel Quote of the Day

“It can hardly be a coincidence that no language on earth has ever produced the expression, ‘As pretty as an airport.”

― Douglas Adams, The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul

What’s your favorite and least favorite airport.

Blowing in the Wind

Days such as today, remind me that escaping is a necessity. Vacations are a must! After a 16 hour day, the pressure for constant creative ingenuity leaves a craving to just SHUT DOWN, curl up into a ball and sleep. However, life isn’t like that! Not for me at least…. This leaves me lusting for an exotic adventure… A fling with a country that allows you let let go of your inhibitions and just be! No pressure to create, conform, maximize or any of the other synonyms that insinuate productivity for a Fortune 500 company. At this very moment all I want to do is sit still on a slice of gorgeous heaven on earth and let the universe whisper sweet nothing’s to me.. This is why I Flirt With Travel. Soothes my soul.

What do you do for a momentary relaxation?

Travel Quote of the Day

“Every dreamer knows that it is entirely possible to be homesick for a place you’ve never been to, perhaps more homesick than for familiar ground.”

― Judith Thurman

Every once in a while, I think we all feel like our heart lies in another place, even if that place is foreign land. On a completely different note, the morning boot camp workouts I’ve been attending have been brutal. Today was a particularly miserable mix of crab walks, bear crawls, push ups and triceps dips. With my deep seated hatred of exercise in mind, I give you:

“Exercise is done against one’s wishes and maintained only because the alternative is worse”

– George Sheehan

Unless of course you love fitness. In which case, more power to you, though I do think you’re a nut job.

Travel Quote of the Day

“Now more than ever do I realize that I will never be content with a sedentary life, that I will always be haunted by thoughts of a sun-drenched elsewhere.”

― Isabelle Eberhardt, The Nomad: The Diaries of Isabelle Eberhardt

This is the truth of my life. I am always ready to check how green the grass is in the next pasture. I don’t know if I was made for desk work.

Travel Quote of the Day

“Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.”

-W. C. Fields

Here’s to hoping you never forget the corkscrew on your travels. Bottoms up!
